Real Madrid are fearing the very worst with Gareth Bale after the Welshman has failed to impress so far in his second spell at Tottenham.
Real Madrid are fearing that Tottenham will cut their losses and send Gareth Bale back to the Spanish side come to the end of the season.
The Welshman completed a return to north London in September but has struggled to keep his fitness levels constant.
The latest injury issue for Bale is a calf problem sustained in his side’s 3-1 win over Stoke in the EFL Cup quarter-final on December 23.
The 31-year-old scored in that fixture but had to come off at half-time. Recent reports even hint that the Welshman could miss the first few weeks of 2021 due to injury.
Spanish publication AS have now claimed that Real chiefs are fearing that Bale will be sent back to the club at the end of the 2020-21 campaign, rather than Tottenham taking up the option to extend the deal for another season.
For Real, that would be particularly bad due to the Welshman being on a mega contract at the club which Tottenham are currently covering for the most past.
The report adds that having to pay Bale such a wage, which most teams can not afford, could affect Madrid’s summer plans.
Next season, Bale will enter the final year of his Madrid contract and the deal will expire in the summer of 2022.
