England fans were left appalled by Gareth Southgate’s team selection for the Three Lions’ Euro 2020 match against Croatia.
Gareth Southgate has landed himself in hot water with England fans after selecting a surprise line-up for Sunday’s Euro 2020 opener.
The Three Lions play their first game of Group D against Croatia on Sunday afternoon. Many fans had expected to see an array of attacking talent in the line-up to face the 2018 World Cup finalists.
But Southgate did a 180 instead by selecting a more defensive-minded side that has left many supporters cringing.
The England boss left Jack Grealish benched, didn’t even name Jadon Sancho or Ben Chilwell in the squad, dropped Luke Shaw for Kieran Trippier at left-back, and he started Kalvin Phillips and Raheem Sterling.
But two back-up goalkeepers in Dean Henderson and Sam Johnstone got the nod to a spot in the squad.
What did the fans have to say?
It’s fair to say the fans on Twitter aren’t happy at all. Some even recommended that the FA replaces Southgate with former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard.
