Rafael Benitez says Roman Abramovich’s big spending this summer means the pressure is on Chelsea to deliver on all fronts.

Chelsea have been the big spenders in the transfer window so far as they look to battle for silverware this season.

The Blues have spent more than £200m this summer on deals for Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, and Hakim Ziyech.

With Rennes’ Eduardo Mendy still expected to join, Chelsea might end up spending a huge amount on additions overall.

As Frank Lampard takes charge of his second season at the club, all eyes will be on him to deliver this time around.

In his debut season, he had to make do with youth as well as the limitation from the club’s transfer ban.

No excuses can be given anymore with Abramovich deciding to loosen his purse strings this time around.

Having managed Chelsea before, Rafael Benitez understands what is at stake than most will do.

The 60-year-old veteran manager speaks on the piling pressure for Chelsea to compete on all fronts this term.

He told the Daily Mail of his time with the Blues in the 2012/13 season and compared it with the current situation of things at the club.

“That means we delivered. They could see we were professionals, working hard and doing things right. I didn’t have any regrets.”

“The problem at this time was that they wanted to win, they needed to win, they were desperate to win. As soon as something was wrong they were changing the manager and changing policy.”

“But the reality is that Chelsea were improving the system, Michael Emenalo was doing a good job as director of football, their academy was very good, always winning the FA Youth Cup.”

“Now you can see Abramovich is back with his support and they have signed a lot of good players and will be very competitive.

“This year, Chelsea and Manchester United must deliver. They have spent some money in recent years.”
