Chelsea boss Frank Lampard must deliver this season or could end up being replaced by Mauricio Pochettino, says Darren Bent.

The jury is out on Frank Lampard to deliver the goods for Chelsea this season.

Last term, the Blues were under a transfer embargo and the English manager could be forgiven for his ‘exploits’.

It’s a different story this time around. Frank Lampard and Chelsea flexed their muscles in the transfer window so far.

Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz and Thiago Silva have all come in as potential first-team players. Elsewhere, Malang Sarr also joined the club but he was sent out on loan.

That’s not all. Lampard is still in search of a goalkeeper and Edouard Mendy looks set to come in and full that role. That could make for Chelsea’s seventh signing of the summer.

With a manager like Mauricio Pochettino without a job at the moment, Darren Bent says the pressure is on the Chelsea boss to deliver at all costs.

“The next step is trophies,” Bent told Goal.

“He has got to deliver trophies as he has bought top players from around Europe.”

“Chelsea had a free crack at them and after having a free hit year with a transfer embargo, it has ramped up the pressure twofold.”

“Werner, Ziyech, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and Havertz are all top players. They are luxuries for any manager in the positions they play.”

“For me, Lampard has got to deliver.”

“My fear is that if they don’t get off to the best of starts, other great managers like Pochettino will be waiting to go in.”

“I am pretty sure that most managers around the world would now quit where they were to manage this squad of players.”

Chelsea begin their Premier League campaign against Brighton later on Monday night. For sure, everyone would expect nothing less than a win from Frank Lampard and company.
