The Catalans were subjected to a humiliation of great magnitude the last time they encountered the Bavarians.
Ronald Koeman says Bayern Munich “hold bad memories” for Barcelona while reacting to the 2021-22 Champions League group stage draw.
Barcelona are usually the favorites to top their Champions League group, but that looks unlikely this time.
The draw in Istanbul on Friday placed them into Group E alongside Bayern Munich. Benfica and Dynamo Kyiv were revealed as the other members of Group E.
Barca fans will surely not want a repeat of the result of the previous encounter between the two teams as the Bundesliga champions humiliated the La Liga giants 8-2 in the 2019-20 Champions League quarter-finals.
“It’s a strong group, but there are other strong groups like ours,” Koeman told a press conference ahead of his side’s match against Getafe on Saturday, as Marca reports.
“We’re talking about big names with history like Bayern Munich and Benfica.
“Bayern hold bad memories for us for what happened two years ago. They are a club that have aspirations of winning the Champions League, with some great players.
“It will be between [Barcelona], Benfica and Bayern for first place.”
