The Brazilian star caused a stir after expressing a desire to reunite with his former Barcelona partner in crime on Wednesday night.
Neymar helped Paris Saint-Germain ease 3-1 past Manchester United in the Champions League Group H encounter, but immediately dropped a bit of a bombshell after the match.
The former Barcelona man not only publicized his intention of playing alongside Lionel Messi once again but also claimed that he is hoping for a reunion as early as the next season.
Neymar’s statement acted as fuel to fire to the talks of Messi’s potential exit from Barca at the end of the season.
The Argentine superstar is supposedly against staying any longer at Camp Nou once his contract expires next summer, and a move to the French capital has been mooted.
An ambitious candidate for the presidential role at Barca, however, has refused to be drawn into the PSG man’s comments as he hopes for Messi to remain at Barca.
“It’s normal for Neymar to say that,” Laporta told Catalunya Radio.” They’re friends and have a relationship.
“I hope Leo can wait and listen to the proposal made by the new Barcelona president.
“We have contact with Leo and I know he respects me. We respect each other, but we haven’t discussed his renewal. He guarantees that you can aspire to win everything. I want him to stay at Barcelona.”
