Ahead of their Champions League match against Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid confirmed one of their star strikers will miss the game.

One of Atletico Madrid’s star strikers is set to miss the upcoming Champions League opener against Bayern Munich. The Colchoneros made the trip to Munchen ahead of the opening match against Bayern at Allianz Arena this Wednesday.

Striker Diego Costa is confirmed injured with a muscular problem after suffering an issue during the most recent match against Celta de Vigo. It’s still unclear how much time will Costa miss after the most recent diagnosis but the club confirmed they hope he can recover quickly. For now, Costa won’t be able to play for the next couple of matches.

“Diego Costa had to be replaced during the second half of the game that our team played in Balaidos against RC Celta,” wrote the club on their website.

“The striker underwent tests at the Universidad de Navarra Clinic and determined that our player suffers a muscular injury on his left thigh and his evolution is pending.”

Another bump on the road for Costa.

The latest injury problem for Diego Costa just adds to the already existing problems he has with Atletico Madrid since he returned from Chelsea. It hasn’t been possible to get the best version of this player back since he returned for various reasons. However, one of the biggest problems he’s faced so far is injuries.

Diego Simeone made the call to bring Luis Suarez for this specific reason. Costa hasn’t been able to recover his best form and the Uruguay international is the ideal replacement for his absence or when something like this happens. The latest injury setback leaves ‘Lucho’ with all the options to start against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
