The ex-Germany international is on the verge of completing a move to Turkey and has already bid a final farewell to the Gunners.
Mesut Ozil will always have a “big history” at Arsenal and his quality will be missed in the team, says Mikel Arteta.
Ozil terminated his lucrative contract which had him tied to the Emirates until the end of the season after a mutual agreement with Arsenal.
The 32-year-old is expected to join Fenerbache as a free agent once his medical and all the necessary paperwork are finalized in a bid to revitalize a once-flourishing career that faltered in London.
“Mesut is in Turkey going through the medical that has to be completed,” Arteta told Sky Sports after the 3-0 win over Newcastle.
“There is still some paperwork that has to be done but it doesn’t matter – Mesut’s quality will be missed.
“He’s a very special player who has a big history in this football club and if he ends up doing the deal when it happens I will give my clear opinion on that.”
Arsenal paid Real Madrid a reported €50 million to secure the services of Ozil back in 2013.
Ozil scored 44 goals and registered 77 assists in his 254 appearances and won, among other domestic honors, three FA Cup trophies during his eight-year stay at the club.
