The Gunners hope to bring Diego Costa to the Emirates on a free transfer.

Diego Cota left Atletico Mineiro after spending only six months at the club. The former Chelsea striker is currently out of work, looking for new opportunities to continue his career.

In recent weeks rumours around interest from Brazil and Spain have emerged on different news outlets. However, a new report links the Spaniard with a return to the Premier League.

According to Goal, Arsenal have reached out to see whether Costa is keen to join the Gunners this January. The player, however, is yet to react to the offer as he is on holiday in Spain.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is eager to bolster his attacking unit in the winter transfer window. The Gunners boss has frozen Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out of his squad while the futures of Eddie Nketiah and Alexander Lacazette remain uncertain.

The north London outfit have also shown interest in signing Fiorentina’s in-demand striker Dusan Vlahovic. However, a move for the Serbia international is unlikely to happen any time before the next summer. Signing Costa would provide the club with a temporary solution to improve their squad for the remainder of the season.

In an interview last week, Mikel Arteta insisted his side are still attractive to the best players in the world.

He said: “Historically, this club has been targeting the best players in the world,

The best players in the world were always interested to come here,

“I consider that situation hasn’t changed. That is one of our biggest powers

“Our capacity to get the attention of people to come to our club, is something that is a big advantage for us.”
