The Spanish full-back is flourishing under the new manager but was frozen out of the squad when the Blues legend was in charge.

Marcos Alonso is enjoying “getting many chances” at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel after enduring “frustrating” times under Frank Lampard.

Alonso was subbed off during Chelsea’s 3-0 loss to West Brom back in September by Lampard.

Reports at the time claimed the 30-year-old had a bust-up with the now-departed manager, and developments that followed served as validation for the rumors.

The versatile Spaniard lost his place in the line-up to Ben Chilwell and did not step onto the pitch for four months thereafter, only seeing game time after the managerial change.

Alonso, who won the Man-of-the-Match award in the 2-0 win over Everton, has become a prominent member in Tuchel’s revived Chelsea team.

“Was it frustrating not playing? Yes, of course,” he told the club’s official website. “I was not getting many chances. It was tough.

“But this is football. Sometimes it is like this. All you can do is keep working hard, keep training and try to be ready for when the chance comes.

“When I am on the pitch it is easier. When I used to stay home it was not easy to help the team.

“But I’m very happy to get involved and to be able to help the team and I’m looking forward to more of this.”
