Trent Alexander-Arnold admits he could be playing higher up the pitch for Liverpool next season.

Widely-regarded as the most talented right-back on the planet, Alexander-Arnold has been nothing short of outstanding since breaking through at Liverpool.

The 21-year-old has showcased the ability to unlock the opposition defenses with his deadly crossing and passing skills. It’s not strange then that he chipped in with 13 assists in the Premier League last season.

Liverpool’s designated set-piece taker also added four goals to his name en route to being crowned the PFA Young Player of the Year.

Alexander-Arnold’s passing range, vision, and technical skill-set enable him to also work higher up the pitch. As such, many pundits expect to see him operating as a midfielder in the future.

Although he admits he’d fancy his chances in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield, the Englishman insists he is happy with his current position.

Discussing his development at Sky Sports, Alexander-Arnold said: “Towards the second half of last season, or even the final quarter after everything that happened, I found it a little bit tougher to find the space and have that freedom.

“I found myself getting man-marked a few more times in games, which I wasn’t used to.

“When you pose a threat to the opposition, they look at it and try and stop it from happening.

“In my mind, if that’s happened to me, it means that I’m doing something right.

“I can only try and keep doing that. Every season, you’ve got to adapt and change your ways because everyone is improving.

“You can’t stay the same – you’ve got to keep improving.

“For me, personally, and for the team, we have to adapt to the new situation and adapt quickly.”

Despite his young age, Alexander-Arnold is already an integral part of Liverpool’s game set-up.

The youngster has gained plaudits for his contribution to the Reds’ Champions League and Premier League success over the past couple of years.

There’s no doubt he will continue to play a vital role in Klopp’s efforts to retain the league title in 2020/21.

Liverpool launch their defending campaign at Anfield against newly-promoted Leeds United on Saturday.
