During the ECA General Assembly, Nasser Al-Khelaifi criticized the European Super League’s three ‘rebel’ clubs for trying to disrupt the ecosystem.

As one of the most powerful figures in European football with his title as the ECA’s chairman, Nasser Al-Khelaifi can run rampant doing anything he wants at PSG. He has a blank check to do as he pleases and UEFA won’t come after him for violating Financial Fair Play rules. Currently, he has one of the most star-studded squads European football has ever seen and his privilege is palpable. Today, he addressed the three clubs that remain united to create the European Super League with no remorse for his actions.

This was a clear declaration of war against Florentino Perez, Joan Laporta, and Andrea Agnelli. But this message has some evident undertones of the battle against Real Madrid for Kylian Mbappe. It is clear he will attempt everything in his power to prevent the young Frenchman from leaving PSG next summer. Using his power inside UEFA is a key element that plays in his favor for a standoff of this magnitude.

Nasser singles out Florentino and the other presidents.

With a slight grin on his face, AS picked up the following statement from Nasser during the ECA Assembly: “I will not spend much time talking about the 18th of April, and the ‘not-so-Super League’, because I do not like to focus on fabulists and failures. Together, we defended the interests of European football for everyone – for the players, the clubs, the leagues, the national associations, and most of all, the fans. We relied on the resolve and strength of president [Aleksander] Ceferin, who stood up to the midnight coup – and people with short memories should remember that this is exactly what it was.

“And while the three rebel-clubs waste energies, twist narratives and continue to shout at the sky, the rest of us are moving forward and focusing every energy on building a better future for European football – together as one. As you know, for the nine clubs who asked to come back into our family, the ECA board has re-integrated them into our structures with renewed commitments to strengthen our association. I welcome them back to the ECA family.”
