Laporta did the unthinkable after winning his presidency

According to a report from Sport, Joan Laporta did what nobody thought he would do right after becoming FC Barcelona’s new president.

Joan Laporta was willing to do anything to get FC Barcelona back where it belongs, he even did the unthinkable after winning the presidency. For many of the club’s supporters, Neymar’s exit was considered treason after everything the club did for him. They were the ones who brought him to European football after paying nearly €150 million. The Brazilian player repaid them by leaving for even more money than he already made. It has been widely reported that Neymar won close to €400 million during his first year at PSG alone.

But for Joan Laporta, none of that mattered because he attempted to sign the player once again. Sport reports that the new president sent two people to Paris in order to see if they could sign Neymar. The player was extremely flattered by the attempt because he was willing to do anything to play alongside Messi. But we all know how everything turned out with Barcelona’s dire financial situation and PSG’s attitude towards letting their best players leave the club. Laporta didn’t seem to care at the beginning, he probably also didn’t know how difficult the club’s situation was.

This isn’t the first time Neymar is tempted.

Back when Josep Maria Bartomeu was still the club’s president, there was a part of the club’s board that attempted to bring Neymar back. But the president refused to take this opportunity seriously. This time though, Neymar confessed his desire to play alongside Messi again. However, PSG’s board caught wind of what was taking place and they decided to act quickly. As soon as they knew what Laporta was trying to do, they shut everything down with money.

This report confirms that Nasser Al-Khelaifi only deposited €20 million into Neymar senior’s account and the negotiations stopped. This is yet another proof that a club as powerful as PSG can virtually buy the loyalty of any player in the world. In the end, Neymar still got his wish to play alongside Messi. And Laporta finally started to realize that the club he adores was in much deeper trouble than he previously anticipated. It’ll take them a long time to recover from this situation but at least they are finally taking the right steps.
