The sharpshooter has stayed away from the pitch lately, but his manager is convinced he will have an impact on the Citizens’ campaign.

Pep Guardiola believes Sergio Aguero’s ‘special quality’ makes him one of the finest strikers ever not just in the Premier League but in all of football.

Aguero joined Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011, and has cemented his legacy as arguably the best player of all time in the history of the Sky Blues.

The striker is the club’s record goalscorer, netting over 250 goals in 379 appearances so far, and has helped bring 13 trophies at the Etihad.

2020-21, however, hasn’t been kind to him with the 32-year-old deprived of playing time due to various fitness issues. Having contracted COVID-19, he is currently observing a period of self-isolation.

Aguero has made just three starts across all competitions this season, and Guardiola is confident that the player can have a big influence in the second half of Man City’s season.

“I’m so optimistic. He is going to help us in the decisive moments, to give us the goals and the difference that we need. I’m so confident it’s going to happen,” said Guardiola, via Goal.

“He needs the special sharpness and the first steps for this quality to score a goal, but it depends on him. At the end, we’ll see him in the training session and on the pitch and it’s easy to realize if he’s fit or not.

“But hopefully he can help us with the special quality he has. That’s why he is one of the best strikers ever – not just in England – all the time in football history.”
