It was Ronaldo’s first appearance since he and his partner, Georgina Rodriguez, announced the tragic death of one of their twins, a baby boy, on social media on Monday evening.
The other twin, a baby girl, was born safely.
United had granted Ronaldo compassionate leave and the forward subsequently missed the 4-0 defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday.
During the match at Anfield, Liverpool and United fans held a minute’s applause in the seventh minute as a show of support for Ronaldo and his family during this unimaginably difficult time in their lives.
