The couple had revealed on social media last October that they were expecting twins.

Cristiano Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez have announced the death of one of their twins, a baby boy.

The couple made the heartbreaking announcement on Ronaldo’s social media accounts on Monday evening, saying it is the ‘greatest pain that any parents can feel’.

Their baby girl, however, survived. They said her birth ‘gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness’.

A message from the couple read: “It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel.

“Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support.

“We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time.

“Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you.”

Ronaldo has a son Cristiano Jr, born in 2010, and twins Eva and Mateo, both born in 2017. He and Rodriguez also share a daughter, Alana Martina, who was born in 2017.

Ronaldo’s current & former clubs send their condolences

Since the couple shared their news on social media, they have received an abundance of messages of condolence.

One from Ronaldo’s current club, Manchester United, read: “Your pain is our pain. Sending love and strength to you and the family at this time.”

The 37-year-old’s former club Real Madrid said in a statement: “Real Madrid, its president and board of directors are deeply saddened by the passing of one of the children that our dear Cristiano Ronaldo and his partner, Georgina Rodriguez, were expecting.

“Real Madrid shares in the family’s pain and wishes to send them all of our warmth.”

Juventus, another of Ronaldo’s old clubs, tweeted: “Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Georgina and the whole family during this time.”

While the Portuguese’s boyhood club, Sporting CP, tweeted: “A lot of strength, Cristiano. The Sportinguista family is with you.”
