Liverpool claimed an easy win over their arch-rivals to keep the Premier League title race heated.

Liverpool defeated Manchester United 4-0 in their Premier League game on Tuesday. It was another evening to forget for Ralf Rangnick’s side as they stayed fifth on the league table.

Salah ends goal drought in style!

Man United came into the game on the back of their 3-2 win over Norwich City. However, Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored a hat-trick against the Canaries, was absent from the Red Devils squad due to the tragic death of his baby son.

Fans of both teams showed support for the United star by applauding in the seventh minute of the game. However, before that, Liverpool had secured an early opener through Luis Diaz.

Following a perfect low cross from Mohamed Salah, the in-form forward nodded home from close range to make it 1-0 for Liverpool in the fifth minute.

The Reds continued attacking and doubled their lead through Salah’s crisp strike inside the box 15 minutes later.

Even after the start of the second half, United showed little momentum to turn the game around. It was Liverpool who established their dominance early on and scored their third goal through Sadio Mane in the 68th minute.

An assist from Diaz found the Senegalese star, who smashed an inch-perfect low shot past David De Gea as soon as he received the ball inside the box.

Liverpool remained in charge of the possession despite slowing the game down after their third goal. Salah put the icing on the cake by making it 4-0 in the 85th minute. Following a brilliant long pass from Diogo Jota, the Egyptian star completed his brace by chipping the ball past De Gea with the help of a slight deflection from Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

United’s loss was only a goal shy of their 5-0 defeat against Liverpool earlier this season. While perfectly showcasing United’s unimpressive improvement under Ralf Rangnick, the defeat highlights personnel problems in several areas of United’s squad.

What’s next for Liverpool and United?

Liverpool go top of the Premier League table while waiting for Man City to play their upcoming match against Wolves. The Reds will meet Everton in their next league game on Sunday.

On the other hand, United might lose their fifth place on the table if West Ham manage to beat Chelsea this weekend. The Red Devils will now prepare to face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
