The 37-year-old will miss the trip to Anfield after making a heartbreaking announcement on Monday.

Manchester United have confirmed Cristiano Ronaldo won’t feature in tonight’s trip to Liverpool in the Premier League following the death of his newborn son.

The forward and his partner Georgina Rodriguez released a joint statement on Monday evening to announce the tragic news, while also confirming the birth of a baby girl.

A statement from Manchester United read: “Family is more important than everything and Ronaldo is supporting his loved ones at this immensely difficult time. As such, we can confirm that he will not feature in the match against Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday evening and we underline the family’s request for privacy.

“Cristiano, we are all thinking of you and sending strength to the family.”

Who else is missing?

Former Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane is a big injury doubt as he nears a return from a muscle injury.

Bruno Fernandes, however, should be fit. The midfielder trained with the team on Monday, despite being involved in a car crash.

Scott McTominay (foot), Edinson Cavani (calf), Luke Shaw (leg), and Fred (hip) remain unavailable for Ralf Rangnick’s side.

Given the absences of key players, on top of being away from home, United are the underdogs for Tuesday’s clash.

Bet365 currently has a Red Devils win priced at a high 7.50, suggesting they only have a 13% of victory. A draw pays out at 5.00. This implies they only have a 20% of holding Liverpool to a draw.
