Thierry Henry offers his expert opinion on how the Parisian club could’ve avoided getting into an awkward & high-risk situation concerning one of their most precious players.

Kylian Mbappe is fast approaching the end of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain. In fact, come January, he will be free to hold talks with his potential suitors regarding a transfer next summer.

Last summer, the chance of resolving Mbappe’s contract situation was relatively favourable for Paris Saint-Germain. However, instead of prioritizing one of their most prized asset’s future, PSG opted to add a host of high-profile faces to their squad, with Lionel Messi being the icing on the cake.

Now, Real Madrid’s interest in the 2020–21 Ligue 1 Player of the Year is no secret, and they could be waiting to jump at the opportunity of signing their long-term transfer target for free.

We wouldn’t have to wait too long to see whether Mbappe decides to remain in his homeland or pursue his dream of wearing the prestigious white shirt. Should he decide the latter, PSG could only watch him slip out of their hands – but Henry believes the French giants could’ve handled the situation in a much better manner.

“It should have been settled two years ago,” Henry, speaking to Amazon, reported by RMC Sport, stated.

“I think that if two years ago, they had sat down with Mbappe to tell him: ‘that’s fine be your team, we’re gonna build this team around you, you’re gonna be the boss.

“But there he really has his destiny in his hands. This should have been fixed a long time ago!”
