After yet another injury setback, Real Madrid face the genuine prospect of never seeing Sergio Ramos in the famous white jersey again.

Real Madrid have announced yet another injury setback for Sergio Ramos.

The skipper missed Saturday morning’s training session in Valdebebas following the club’s Champions League semi-final defeat to Chelsea on Wednesday, and his injury has now been confirmed.

According to a medical report, Ramos has tendonitis in his left hamstring ahead of showdown with former club Sevilla on Sunday.

“Following the tests carried out on Sergio Ramos by the Real Madrid medical services, he has been diagnosed with tendonitis in the semimembranosus muscle of his left hamstring,” read a statement.

Real Madrid didn’t state how long Ramos could be out of action, only adding the Spaniard’s recovery would be monitored.

Is this to be the end?

With only four La Liga games remaining, including Sunday’s clash with Sevilla, Ramos could miss the rest of the season.

Should that be the case, the 2-0 second-leg defeat to Chelsea in the Champions League semi-finals could be Ramos’ final match in his Los Blancos career.

The 35-year-old’s contract with the club expires next month and chances of a new deal appear bleak.

According to Diario AS on Friday, contract talks between player and club remain at an impasse. Real Madrid’s reluctance to hand the defender more than a one-year deal, and a desire for him to accept a 10% pay cut, has apparently stalled talks.

Despite Real Madrid’s policy with veteran players, Ramos seeks a two-year extension rather than another 12 months. He is reportedly also keen to keep his current salary in Spain.

But given his injury troubles this season, lack of major offers, advancing years, and the expected arrival of David Alaba, Ramos will struggle to get his desired terms.

Raphael Varane’s possible summer exit could be the Spaniard’s best chance at getting the renewed terms he seeks.
