Atletico Madrid’s new striker Moussa Dembele gave his first interview as a Colchonero and revealed who his favorite player was.
Moussa Dembele recently arrived at Madrid on a loan-deal from Lyon. Atletico’s new number 19 left the French club after an unsuccessful spell this season. However, the 24-year-old is hoping to make a career comeback under Diego Simeone.
“It’s a big challenge, a big club known all over the world. It’s a big step for me, I’m over the moon to be here and I can’t wait to start. The stadium says everything about the club, hopefully the fans can come back soon to support us.”
Dembele becomes the second French player to join Atletico’s squad and is hoping to cross the language barrier soon.
“When you come to a country and you don’t really speak the language it’s always hard in the beginning, but I will do my best to learn Spanish as quick as I can.
I had a chance [to speak to Thomas Lemar] but I didn’t want to speak to him before I signed the contract. Now that I’ve signed it, obviously I will speak to him and try to know more about the club and my teammates. Hopefully I can get on easily with the squad.”
Dembele revealed how his idol was an Atletico man.
The Lyon loanee was asked about his main characteristics as a player and also spoke about who he looked up to growing up.
“First and foremost I’m a striker, and as a striker I like to score goals because that’s my job. I like to run in the space, take the ball and score goals. I’m physical but with technique and I can’t wait to start playing here. Growing up, my favorite striker was Fernando Torres so yeah, I’m happy to be here. Hopefully we can have a good journey together.”
