According to a former youth coach of Lyon’s Moussa Dembele, the player is the ideal candidate to take over from Olivier Giroud for France.

Moussa Dembele is 24-years-old, and perhaps one of the most understated forwards in European football.

The Lyon man has scored over 20 goals per season for the last five years. Yet he has never been called up to Les Bleus first team.

He has represented France throughout the national team youth system, but Didier Deschamps has not seen him as part of his plans as yet.

Speaking to Goal, Dembele’s former youth coach Laurent Bonadei, reveals why he may never be a quick-footed dribble wizard-like some of his compatriots, he can do a very valuable job.

Bonadei who worked with Dembele at PSG insists he sees his former prodigious talent working hard and proving he has the right attitude. He hopes it is only a matter of time before he gets his reward.

He said:

“Moussa has always been a complete player.”

“He’s not a player who will dribble three players in a phone booth, like Mbappe or Neymar, but he can become Giroud’s successor in the French team, because he doesn’t hesitate to go into duels and work for the collective.”

There might be some truth in this. After all, he did score two very Giroud like goals against City.
