The La Masia product is hoping to spend more time on the pitch after proving to be the match-winner with a decisive spot-kick.
Riqui Puig vows to “continue to fight” for a place in the FC Barcelona line-up after helping the team book a place in the Supercopa de Espana final.
Puig started on the bench and replaced Sergio Busquets in the final minute of the match as Barca desperately searched for a goal with the score still tied at 1-1 against Real Sociedad.
With the deadlock still intact even after 120 minutes, the match proceeded to penalty shootouts. It was then that the young midfielder made his mark as he converted the Catalans’ fifth spot-kick to give them a 3-2 shootout win.
The 21-year-old, besides the recent proud moment, has endured a frustrating season as he has not been afforded enough minutes on the pitch by Ronald Koeman.
He has made only seven appearances across all competitions so far in 2020-21 an all of those have come as a substitute.
“I’m very happy to have scored the last penalty. I volunteered to take it. I shot with great conviction – you have to believe in yourself,” Puig said after the match, via Goal.
“I have never lost the desire to be in the first team and I will continue to fight for it.
“Ronald named four players to shoot the penalties. I asked for the fifth one. I’m a very happy guy, I have never lost my smile. I’m lucky, I will never give up.”
