The summer signing returned to the team sheet after a while on Sunday but only just lasted on the pitch for the first 45 minutes.
Arsenal fans rejoiced as they saw Thomas Partey’s name in the starting XI in the Premier League showdown against Tottenham.
The midfielder, having arrived from Atletico Madrid over the summer, was making just his sixth appearance for his new side after missing action for over a month due to a thigh problem.
It was, however, a match to forget for the Ghanaian. He was pulled out of the game after what appeared to be a recurrence of the thigh injury.
If that wasn’t disappointing enough, his side conceded the second goal of the 2-0 loss at the exact moment he walked over to the touchline in pain.
“I haven’t seen the action repeated. But it is an injury and it is in the same area, unfortunately. We don’t know how bad it is,” Mikel Arteta told in his post-game press conference.
“I was trying to push him [back on the pitch] but I don’t think he realized the gravity of the situation when he left his position but that was probably because he was in a lot of pain.
“I haven’t spoken to him so I don’t know exactly how it happened or if he felt something really serious.”
No timeframe on the recovery of Partey has been made official yet but reports suggest he could be out for another month and miss as many as eight games.
