Gareth Bale takes pleasure from his decisive performance against Brighton but refuses to make the night all about himself.
Tottenham narrowly edged past Brighton in Sunday’s late Premier League encounter, grabbing a 2-1 victory.
The scoreline remained tied until deep in the second half and it took the introduction of Gareth Bale to break the deadlock.
Bale came off the bench replacing Erik Lamela at minute 70 and got on the scoresheet just three minutes later, heading the ball home on a sublime cross from Sergio Reguilon.
It was the Welshman’s first goal for Spurs in seven years, with his last one prior to it coming on his farewell appearance against Sunderland way back in May 2013.
As pleased as he was with the feeling of finding the back of the net, the 31-year made sure that the focus remains on the team.
Bale told Sky Sports after the full-time whistle: “It’s a great feeling. You just want to come on and do a job for the team. I worked for the team and was lucky enough to get the goal.
“Everyone always talks about individuals but I’ve always said I’m a team player, I’d be happy coming on doing a job even if it’s defending. The most important thing is the collective.
“We are growing every game. Even if we make mistakes we are learning from them and we can only use that as a positive.”
