As Newell’s Old Boys fans call for Messi’s return, a video of the star aged eight has gone viral showing just how well-honed his talents already were.
Lionel Messi left the football world in shock earlier this week by requesting a transfer away from Barcelona, prompting several European giants to enter the fray for his services.
Manchester City, Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, and even Manchester United are rumored to be plotting bids.
But on Thursday in Messi’s hometown of Rosario, Argentina, fans took to the streets in hope of a stunning return for the six-time Ballon d’Or winner. They waved red-and-black flags, donned Messi merchandise, and even let off the odd flare.

Of course, Leo has always held a special affection for the club he played for in his youth and previously suggested he may end his career there.
“The desire is always playing for Newell’s, it is what I dreamed as a kid,” he told TyC Sports in November 2017.
“When I went to the club, I imagined playing in the Primera Division, but I do not know what’s going to happen in a few years. I cannot say I’m going back because I do not know where I’m going to be.”
While chances of a reunion this summer appear unlikely, however, Newell’s Old Boys haven’t given up with footage of the forward as an eight-year-old going viral on social media.
It’s actually quite remarkable as a young Messi made easy work of his foes, showed great intelligence, and scored some good goals.
