After yet another painful defeat in the Champions League, Zinedine Zidane gave us a fresh update about his future at Real Madrid.

Zinedine Zidane’s future is hanging from a thread at Real Madrid after tonight’s defeat vs Shakhtar Donetsk. The French manager has been trying to change the squad’s results in the middle of a crisis that doesn’t seem to end. With several injured players and a lack of good results, Florentino Perez’s patience is quickly running out with the French manager.

All the credit he had after winning so many trophies in the past won’t last him for much longer. In fact, getting eliminated in the Champions League might get him sacked. Some journalists after the game were expecting him to possibly resign after another defeat. However, a defiant Zidane came out to speak against these expectations after the game. In the manager’s view, his players deserved to win the match against Shakhtar.

Zidane refuses to resign.

“I’m not going to resign, [it’d be] no use,” Zidane said in Kyiv via Marca. “We were very good in the first half, but we were missing goals. We were pressing well, playing well… The ball didn’t want to go in. We had chances, [we hit] the post… and then it got complicated.

“I’m strong and I’m going to give everything. I think we deserved to win. We had chances. We can’t let our heads drop. When you have a bad run, you have to keep going. It’s a bad run in terms of results, but we have to keep going. It was a ‘final’ today. We prepared for it well, but the ball didn’t go in. We have a game to win and [let’s] move on.”

“I don’t think there’s a problem, lots of things are coming together [at the same time],” Zidane added. “We created chances, it’s not to do with our game. We’re struggling to score goals. An opening goal would’ve made the game easier for us. I’m optimistic. It’s a difficult moment, but we have to have character and pride. Today’s result is a shame because we didn’t deserve it. We have to win the next game. We’re going to believe and we’re going to fight, I’m sure of it.”
