The former Man City midfielder has weighed in his verdict on the Premier League title race and Thomas Partey’s progress at Arsenal.
Yaya Toure praised Thomas Partey’s performance in Arsenal’s midfield, but he expects the Gunners to drop points before the season ends.
Despite an injury-barren spell at the Emirates, Partey has shined when called upon. His recent return from a slight injury setback has coincided with Arsenal’s improved form, with Mikel Arteta’s side on a four-match winning streak.
Partey also scored Arsenal’s first goal against Bournemouth last weekend, which instigated a memorable 3-2 comeback win from two goals down.
“Yeah he’s brilliant, it’s really nice to see,” Toure told talkSPORT of the Ghana international’s performances.
“I think now every weekend when Arsenal have to play, I have to be honest, I would go just to watch him. He’s just unbelievable.”
‘I think Arsenal will drop points’
Toure, who won three Premier League titles at Manchester City between 2010 and 2018, remains hopeful his old club can catch Arsenal in the title race.
“At the moment, it is really tight. Man City are just playing really well and are hoping Arsenal will drop points,” the current Tottenham academy coach said.
“I think Arsenal will drop points. It is a long way still, the pressure is there. Man United are still doing well, Liverpool a brilliant result a few days ago, and Arsenal are competing fantastically well.”
“Sometimes a team who can become champions you can always smell that luck and positivity,” Toure added.
“When I see games most of the time, you can feel champions when the team score and the camaraderie between the players and the celebrations and enjoying playing for each other.
“It was a [last-minute goal against Bournemouth]. I don’t want to say it is a decider of the league as it’s a long way to go. I hope Man City will do it because I’m a fan of Man City.”
