The Catalans are yet to win their first trophy under the club legend.

Xavi has insisted the outcome of Barcelona’s push for the Super Cup title will affect the rest of their campaign.

The Catalans are leading the La Liga table after 16 matchdays, staying three points above Real Madrid. Xavi’s men claimed another crucial victory when they defeated Atletico Madrid last weekend.

Before returning to the league, however, the Blaugrana must travel to Saudi Arabia to participate in the Spanish Super Cup tournament.

Speaking ahead of his side’s clash against Real Betis, Xavi insisted his side are eager to claim their first title of the season.

“We care about it, of course, and we are motivated,” the Barcelona manager said.

“We want to be there until Sunday and win the final. It makes us excited. It would give us peace of mind. It wouldn’t change much whether we win it or not, but of course, it’s a title.

“We keep in mind not to make mistakes because Betis is the Cup champion. Betis is a difficult opponent.

“I am here to win titles and if there are no titles this season you are going to kill me. So go for it.

“It would strengthen us a lot. It would reinforce us and if not, it would be a disappointment. We are going to compete at the highest level.”
