Even though FC Barcelona is not ready to make a decision yet, Xavi Hernandez is more than ready to get the biggest call-up of his life.

When Xavi Hernandez left FC Barcelona, he vowed to someday return to give back a little of everything the club gave him for decades. As a player for the Blaugranas, he became arguably the greatest midfielder in the history of the game. Many credit Leo Messi’s heroics to Barcelona’s wild success. But those who understand this game are aware of the major role Xavi played in these trophy hauls. That so-called Tiki-Taka style of play was born with the Catalan midfielder. Pep Guardiola probably wouldn’t have been able to make his players perform at that level if Xavi wasn’t part of his squad.

He is the living heir of that evolution of an offensive style that has persisted for decades. Even though it was born with the English, it has constantly evolved until it reached Catalonia. FC Barcelona was one of the two places where this offensive style was perfected and taken to unknown heights. The other place is AFC Ajax, but they are slightly less obsessed with ball possession. If he wants to make this squad play as they did when he led them on the pitch, Xavi needs at least two players who can give him that.

Laporta needs to talk things over with Xavi.

If Xavi wants to get a call from Laporta, both of them need to talk over their differences. For starters, the Catalan midfielder didn’t support the current president during election season. Also, they didn’t see eye to eye when Xavi proposed his working staff. If they manage to fix these issues, Xavi will only have to worry about giving Riqui Puig and Gavi the lead as the midfield players who can mirror his style. Out of all the polls conducted in Barcelona over the last 48 hours, Xavi is at the top as the overwhelming favorite to take the job as the new manager.

Reports from La Sexta confirmed that the former star is glued to his mobile phone expecting that phone call that will bring him back home to Barcelona. But Xavi’s possible return doesn’t guarantee the club will immediately return to success. However, it does guarantee they will at least stay on the same line that Pep Guardiola placed them a decade ago. Hernandez is the chosen one who can continue the tradition.
