The Argentine icon is edging toward the final month of his current deal at PSG.

Xavi has reiterated his interest in Lionel Messi’s possible return to Barcelona, confirming the club are already “working “on the move.

Messi left Barca after 21 years when he joined Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent in August 2021. The Argentine superstar is nearing the end of his two-year contract at PSG, with no signs of a contract extension being imminent.

Several clubs have shown interest in signing Messi in the next transfer window. However, a move back to Barca is also on the cards for the 35-year-old.

“I talk to Messi a lot. I would love him to come back, we are working on his return,” Xavi said on Friday. “It’s the club of his life. It’s normal, that people are looking forward to a Messi Last Dance, like Michael Jordan.”

He added: “His return will depend on many factors. We are at the expense of the Fair Play but what will decide the most is Leo’s will. He knows that the doors are open to him. A lot of things have to happen.”

PSG confirmed contract talks with Messi in January but they are yet to reach an agreement with the World Cup winner. Barcelona president Joan Laporta also confirmed interest in returning Messi to Camp Nou last week as his future remains open.
