The Argentine international’s current deal at Parc des Princes ends in June.

Lionel Messi is negotiating with Paris Saint-Germain over a possible contract extension beyond the current season.

Messi left Barcelona after 21 years to join PSG in the summer of 2021. Following his free transfer, the Argentine superstar signed a two-year deal at his new club.

Reports have started emerging of several clubs planning to sign Messi as a free agent next summer. From an astronomical Saudi offer to Inter Miami’s ongoing links with the World Cup winner.

However, PSG hasn’t given up on their hopes of keeping Messi at the club. According to manager Christophe Galtier, the Parisians have started negotiating with the 35-year-old.

“There are discussions, the management of the club have exchanged with Leo on the subject of an extension,” Galtier told reporters on Wednesday.

“I don’t know at what stage it is at. Leo seems to me happy to be in Paris.”

Most observers have speculated that Messi will most likely agree to stay at PSG for at least another season. Following a difficult debut campaign, Messi has found his best form at Parc des Princes this season.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has registered seven goals and ten assists in his 13 Ligue 1 appearances this season. Having returned from Argentina’s World Cup celebrations, Messi will most likely return to action for PSG when they host Angers on Thursday.
