The Egyptian King’s claim to be the world’s best player has been backed by former Liverpool star Fernando Torres.

Fernando Torres believes Mohamed Salah is the best player in the world and has singled out the forward’s consistency as a key hallmark of his game.

Salah has enjoyed a blistering start to the season. In only 14 appearances across all competitions, he has already supplied 15 goals and six assists for Liverpool. He even holds a comfortable lead in the Premier League Golden Boot race ahead of the likes of Jamie Vardy and Cristiano Ronaldo.

But for Torres, who scored 81 goals in 142 matches during his spell at Anfield, it’s Salah’s consistency that makes him stand out.

Asked by the club’s website if the 29-year-old is the world’s finest at present, Torres replied: “One hundred percent. I think not only this year, the last two or three seasons have been amazing.”

The 2010 Spanish World Cup winner added on his former Chelsea teammate: “You’re always talking about individual trophies for players when they win trophies at the same time, but I think he has been one of the best two or three players in the world in the past five or six years. It’s amazing, the consistency.

“You can see he breaks all the records and keeps scoring goals. We chat sometimes and I’m really happy for him because I saw him when he came to England – it was difficult at the beginning but he is a great guy and a great player and he is showing the world.”
