The two Portuguese stars are set to lock horns in central midfield for a mouthwatering clash between Wolves and United.

Joao Moutinho has dismissed comparisons with Bruno Fernandes, insisting they are different players and have had their own unique career trajectories.

Fernandes has been one of United’s most impressive performers since his arrival from Sporting CP last January, with 10 goals and six assists to his account already for this season in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old is now to go up against his Portugal teammate Moutinho. The midfielder, like Fernandes, is a product of the Sporting academy and has impressed in the Premier League since his arrival in 2018.

But, at the age of 34, the former Monaco man has played down any similarities between them.

“I started playing a long time ago, but of course we are players who play in the midfield, but Bruno has some characteristics that I don’t have, and I have some he doesn’t have, but it’s normal,” Moutinho told the club’s website.

“No-one is like anyone else – I’m not like Ruben Neves, I’m not like Bruno, I’m not like William [Carvalho], and it’s different.

“He [Fernandes] is a very good player, but he’s already showing in Manchester since he’s come that he’s doing a very good job.”

Moutinho and Wolves will travel to Old Trafford for a Premier League match against United on Tuesday night.
