Nuno Espirito Santo announced Diogo Jota is ‘going to the right place’ after Liverpool struck a €49m deal to sign the Wolves star.

Reports emerged on Friday claiming that Liverpool were on the verge of completing a surprise deal for Jota, as Jurgen Klopp bids to bolster his squad before the Premier League transfer window shuts on October 5.

The Reds boss landed long-term target Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich on the same day and appears to have completed a deal for Jota, with highly-rated defender Ki-Jana Hoever heading the opposite way as part of the agreement.

Jota, who will reportedly put pen-to-paper on a five-year deal at Anfield shortly, has been wished all the best by his soon-to-be former boss Nuno.

“We did the deal because it is good for everyone,” confirmed the Wolves manager as quoted on the BBC. “Diogo was happy here but players like new challenges.”

The four-time Portugal international arrived at Molineux in the summer of 2017 on loan from Atletico Madrid. His impressive performances led the club to sign him on a permanent deal of €14m just a year later.

Jota’s time with Wolves has easily been the best of his career to date, with the 23-year-old bagging 44 goals and 19 assists in 131 appearances.

“Diogo is amazing and everybody knows the relationship we built,” continued Nuno. “What Diogo did for us is absolutely fantastic.

“I think Diogo is going to the right place and we wish him all the best, knowing that it will never be forgotten, especially by our fans, all the memorable moments that Diogo provided.”

As for Wolves’ new defender, 18-year-old Hoever, Nuno added: “He’s a player that I think really has potential, has talent. And it’s up to us to make the best out of him.”
