Arsenal signed Willian on a free transfer and it was David Luiz who made up the mind of his compatriot in making the switch.

Arsenal claimed the FA Cup trophy at the expense of Chelsea. Willian was in the stands and could not help the Blues in their cause. He did not travel with the squad for their Champions League humiliation by Bayern Munich.

Willian was in the final weeks of his contract and negotiations about a contract extension were being held back doors. In the end, nothing came to fruition as both sides were far apart in their estimates.

There was interest in Willian and he has moved on swiftly. He joins Chelsea’s London rivals, Arsenal.

The Brazil international shared that he was lured to the Emirates Stadium by David Luiz. This is the third team the duo will line-up together at.

“He’s very happy,” our forward told Arsenal Digital. “We played together in the national team, we played together at Chelsea, and now at Arsenal again. I think we can do great things together, I hope so, but I’m very happy to be with him again.”

“He said, ‘Come to Arsenal, come to Arsenal, I want you to come!’ So that was the conversation. He is a very nice guy, a top player and I’m very excited to play with him again.”

Willian also took out time to praise Luiz’s impact on his career. He shared the defender has helped him through rough times at Chelsea and is always there to help.

“Of course [he helped in the past], many times. Many times when I had difficult times at Chelsea he was helping me a lot. He is this kind of person that wants to help, especially young players without experience. He is the guy that helps everyone.”
