Stade de Reims announced on Thursday that they have mutually agreed to part ways with manager Will Still.
Still made headlines last season when he became the youngest manager in Europe’s top five leagues at the age of 30, taking over at Reims. However, his tenure at the club has come to an end amid a recent string of poor results.
Last season, Reims enjoyed a remarkable 19-match unbeaten streak under Still’s leadership. However, the team has struggled in recent games, losing their last three matches, including a 4-1 defeat to bottom side Clermont Foot. Currently, Reims sits in 11th place in the Ligue 1 table and has not secured a victory since March.
Club chairman Jean-Pierre Caillot expressed pride in the role Reims played in the development of Still as a coach, stating, “We are proud to have been able to contribute to the emergence of a coach who has been able to impose his convictions and his own style of play.”
In response to his departure, Still, who was born in Belgium to English parents, expressed gratitude to everyone at Reims, stating, “I will always be the number one supporter of the Rouge et Blanc.”
Reims, with 40 points from 31 matches, faces a challenging fixture against third-placed Brest on May 10. The club will now begin the search for a new manager as they look to navigate the remainder of the season and plan for the future.
