Olympique Lyon chief Jean-Michel Aulas is optimistic that their former striker Karim Benzema will someday return to The Groupama Stadium.

Olympique Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has a great desire to see Real Madrid star Karim Benzema return to the French club one day.

If you were not aware, Benzema featured for Lyon back in 2004 for five years. After that, the Spanish giants got hold of the Frenchman for an amount of €35 million.

Since that day, Benzema developed himself to become one of the influential strikers in Europe. He has now agreed to a contract extension at Santiago Bernabeu, but Aulas feels that the star forward will someday make a comeback to his roots.

“Karim has never played at Groupama Stadium before,” Aulas told reporters. “The future will tell us if, when he ends his career, there is a possibility of strengthening the ties.”

“He has had an exceptional career at Real Madrid and in the French team. It is a great source of pride because he is a child of OL.”

Benzema racked 66 goals in 148 appearances across all competitions for the Ligue 1 club. On top of that, he had 26 assists to his name and helped Lyon win four consecutive domestic titles and the Coupe de France.
