Karim Benzema hits a new career-high for Real Madrid

The striker continued his superb run of form to help Real Madrid claim a slender 1-0 victory over Real Betis in La Liga.

Karim Benzema has made five goal involvements in his opening three games of a La Liga season for the first time in his Real Madrid career.

The 33-year-old turned provider on Saturday night by teeing up Dani Carvajal for a sublime second-half volley in Seville. It was enough to seal a 1-0 win and send Real Madrid top of La Liga.

The match also saw Benzema extend his tally to three assists upon setting up Carvajal’s winner. Add the two goals scored in the 4-1 opening day win at Alaves, he already has five goal involvements for the 2021/22 campaign.

‘Karim made the difference today again’

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti again acknowledged Benzema’s impact by citing the Frenchman as the difference-maker at Betis.

“The game was more evenly matched in the first half than it was in the second,” he said in a post-match conference at the Benito Villamarin Stadium.

“Benzema struggled there because he had to drop very deep, but ultimately he made the difference again. He produced a fantastic assist for Carvajal and we won the game.”

Real Madrid return to action on September 11 for a home La Liga match against Celta Vigo after the international break.
