Why Manchester United haven’t completed Jadon Sancho’s transfer yet

The Red Devils are still to confirm their capture of long-term target Jadon Sancho almost two weeks after Euro 2020 ended, so what’s the hold-up?

Despite confirming an agreement with Borussia Dortmund at the beginning of July, Manchester United are yet to complete the signing of Jadon Sancho.

The Premier League giants have settled on an €85 million-plus add-ons transfer fee with Dortmund. Sancho, meanwhile, has agreed on a five-year contract at Old Trafford. He also completed a medical at the club’s Carrington training ground last week but is not officially a Red Devil yet.

What’s the delay?

A hold-up in finalizing the paperwork is said to be the reason behind Sancho’s delayed transfer. United had hoped to make it official last week, but must wait a little longer instead.

According to MEN, the club chiefs hope to make an announcement before the weekend. At the very least, they expect the paperwork to be sorted in the upcoming days to bring an end to this long-running saga.

“From what I understand only paperwork, small little details, then hopefully we can announce something,” United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said after a 2-1 friendly win at Derby on Sunday.

“Let’s get all the paperwork done and get him over the line and then I can say what I truly feel about the player.”

When could Sancho make his debut?

The England international is currently away on holiday after participating in this summer’s European Championship. He isn’t expected to report for pre-season training until next month.

Sancho could, therefore, potentially make his United debut in a friendly against Everton at Old Trafford on August 7 or in the club’s season opener against Leeds in the Premier League a week later.
