As Barca edge closer to a deal for Ferran Torres, the next transfer need at the club has been revealed.

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has reportedly made it known to the club that he wants to sign new full-backs.

His top target, Manchester City forward Ferran Torres, has almost completed a move to Camp Nou. The 21-year-old is undergoing a medical in Barcelona today. The club could announce a deal worth around €55 million with an official statement later on and unveil him to the fans on Tuesday.

With that out of the way, it’s time for Xavi to focus on his next transfer need.

According to Diario Sport, the head coach is intent on signing a new right-back and a left-back.

Xavi feels Sergino Dest doesn’t fit the bill for what he wants in a right-back, while a 38-year-old Dani Alves is only a short-term option as additional cover for the position in Catalonia.

Jordi Alba, on the other hand, remains the undisputed first-choice left-back. But he is also 32 years old now and will turn 33 next March, meaning Xavi has to find a long-term successor sooner rather than later.

Which full-backs could Barcelona sign?

Noussair Mazraoui (Right-Back)

The 24-year-old Moroccan is out of contract at the end of the season at Ajax. Barcelona have already approached his agent, Mino Raiola, about a summer deal. Xavi is keen on Mazraoui, as he rates the right-back’s defensive and attacking qualities highly.

Cesar Azpilicueta (Right-Back)

Barcelona also favor a move for Chelsea captain Azpilicueta. The 32-year-old would only be a short-term cover for the right-back role, but he is out of contract next summer. His versatility is an added bonus. However, Atletico Madrid are also interested in the former Osasuna star.

Jose Luis Gaya (Left-Back)

The 26-year-old’s contract at Valencia ends in 2023, and Barcelona have already approached his representatives. Gaya also has a good relationship with Barca director Mateu Alemany. He could be available for around €20-25 million in the upcoming transfer window.
