Arsenal were linked with Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar for all of last summer and another claim has been made on the player’s future.

Arsenal could yet make another attempt to sign Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar, claims Fabrizio Romano.

The Frenchman has been a long-rumoured target for the Gunners after catching the eye of Europe’s heavyweights following his performances last season.

Arsenal went in for the Lyon star but saw their offers rejected and they eventually turned their focus to Thomas Partey instead.

Aouar is reportedly valued at £40m and played a key role as Lyon reached the semi-finals of the Champions League last term. He recorded nine goals and ten assists in all competitions.

The 22-year-old recently claimed that he would finish the season with Lyon and wouldn’t be seeking a move away from the club.

However, Romano reckons the Gunners could test Lyon’s resolve as they look for a creative player, especially if they fail to land another of their transfer targets in RB Salzburg’s Dominik Szoboszlai.

Also with the Gunners struggling to create chances, many believe Aouar could fill in that void at the club.

“I think they will try again for sure,” Romano told The Arsenal Lounge.

“Now we have to happen what will happen with Szoboszlai, they are waiting on his final decision.”

“But immediately after Szoboszlai signs with another club, they could move again for Aouar. They have already spoke with his agent.”

“It is not easy to sign Aouar in January, but he is at the top of the list for Arsenal. He’s a favourite for Arteta, it’s the same for the board. So, yes, in my opinion they will try again.”
