The 25-year-old striker has found the going tough in the Premier League and reportedly wants a return to Bundesliga in the summer.

Thomas Tuchel has jokingly asked reporters to “read a book” instead of transfer rumors as he played down Timo Werner’s potential exit from Chelsea.

Werner hasn’t quite turned out to be the player Chelsea expected him to be when they paid big money to bring him from RB Leipzig last summer.

The striker has found the net only once in 2021 and just twice in his previous 26 appearances.

With the club not getting their money’s worth and with the German finding it hard to adjust to his new life at Stamford Bridge, it has been suggested the two parties could part ways at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old supposedly wants a Bundesliga return as the Blues reportedly line up a move for Borussia Dortmund hotshot Erling Haaland.

Asked about Werner’s uncertain future, Tuchel responded, via Sky Sports: “Stop reading! Read a book! There is no book on Timo, so read a book!

“For Timo, I think he has no reason now to be frustrated because he played an amazing match against Liverpool, maybe his best match since I arrived.

“This is a team effort to attack and defend, but we expect our guys to create more chances, to be more decisive because we expect the defenders to play on the highest level and so we also expect that of our strikers.

“And then maybe all the stuff you read will disappear.”
