Timo Werner was left frustrated after Germany let their guard down and a conceded a very late equalizer in the match against Spain.

Both teams looked inseparable on paper when Germany took to the pitch to face Spain in the Group 4 of Nations League League A, and so they remained after the end of ninety minutes.

Die Mannschaft, who were far from fielding their full-strength team, took the lead about five minutes after half-time through Timo Werner. They almost managed to preserve their lead till the end but Jose Gaya equalized in the fifth minute of injury time to salvage a point for La Roja.

Thursday night’s stalemate means Joachim Low’s side are still in search of their first Nations League victory. They lost two and drew as many matches in the opening edition of the tournament in 2018/19.

Speaking post-match, Werner, who will soon begin his debut Premier League season with Chelsea, bemoaned his side’s sloppy defending.

“It’s annoying because we put so much into the match, we worked so hard,” the striker said, as per Goal. “After the goal we allowed ourselves to get pegged back a little too much.”

Up next for Germany is the match against Switzerland on Sunday, a team that dropped all three points against Ukraine on Thursday.
