The German opposition has been reminded that the record winners of the competition are going to treat the upcoming game like a final.

Casemiro insists that Real Madrid are up for their ‘most important game of the year’ ahead of the Champions League clash against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Los Blancos holds the highest pedigree of any team in the competition with a record 13 titles but they have massively struggled to maintain their usual lofty standards this season.

Having collected just seven points out of a possible 15, their fate in Europe now hangs in the balance as they sit third going into the final group stage matchday.

A victory is a must if Zinedine Zidane’s men seek to not make unwanted history by dropping to the Europa League.

“We know that tomorrow is the most important game of the year,” Casemiro stated during Tuesday’s pre-match press conference.

“We know that tomorrow’s game is a final and we’re going to play it like a final. We’ve been taught at this club that you don’t play finals, you win them.

“We’re not thinking about anything other than winning.

“We know there is a good opponent and they’re top of the group, so we have to respect that. But, we’re going out to win.”
