It increasingly appears Spurs are in the process of ending their long title drought, but their Portuguese boss holds a different opinion.
A goalless stalemate was the result of Sunday night’s northwest London derby in the Premier League.
While it wasn’t the most positive of outcomes for in-form Tottenham, a point was enough for them to climb back to the top of the league table.
Jose Mourinho’s side lie ahead of the 19 others early in this season’s title race as a better goal difference keeps them above Liverpool, with both teams tied on 21 points after 10 rounds.
Spurs have not been found on the wrong end of a league scoreline ever since losing to Everton on the opening day of the campaign, and many already consider them as favorites to pick up their first English top-flight crown in 59 years.
Mourinho, however, does not seem interested in such talks as he claims his team is just a ‘pony’ and not a ‘horse’ in the title race.
“We are not even in the race,” Mourinho stated after the full-time whistle at Stamford Bridge, via Daily Mail.
“We are not a horse. I don’t know what the word is. We are the small, young horses. We are just a pony.
“They [Chelsea] are one of the biggest contenders, there is no doubt about that. I believe that for them it is not a problem at all to be two points behind us and Liverpool, I think.
“They also know that Tottenham is not a candidate.”
