Messi has been a nightmare for opposing defenders throughout his career.
Adil Rami, who played in La Liga from 2011 to 2017 had a front-row seat to the golden era of the Spanish top flight. Among the luminaries of that time were none other than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Rami, a 2018 World Cup champion, holds both players in high regard, but he recently opened up about what sets the Argentine maestro apart.
“I like Ronaldo, I like Messi, but you cannot compare them together,” he told streamer Zack Nani. “Against Barça, we came together like an army just for Messi and we all went down together.”
He added: “You have to experience it to understand it. When he started to come in with the ball, to ride, we all panicked together.
“You always wanted to be the guy who got the ball from Messi, but it was impossible. He’s not a guy, he’s not a footballer, every time he made this damn pass between the lines while we were tightening the lines.”
Messi registered a total of 672 goals and 303 assists in his 778 appearances for Barcelona, marking one of the most legendary careers in football history.
