The Spanish forward lost his temper in the late stages of Wolves’ draw against Brentford.
Diego Costa received a red card in the 97th minute of Wolves’ 1-1 draw against Brentford on Saturday.
Ben Mee scored the opener for the Bees in the 50th minute before Ruben Neves equalized the game only two minutes later.
Wolves spent the remainder of the game pushing for the match-winner. However, the Bees’ solid defence only increased their frustration.
Costa finally lost his temper in the game’s final minute, headbutting Mee, who was pulling his shirt. The referee initially didn’t spot the move but dismissed Costa after a quick VAR review.
It is Costa’s first red card in the Premier League, which is a bit unusual given the former Chelsea star’s style of play.
Costa returned to the Premier League to join Wolves this summer after spending a few months out of work. The Spaniard is yet to score his first goal for the Wolves as they continue struggling for points in the Premier League.
The Brentford draw keeps Wolves in the bottom three ahead of their home game against Brighton. Costa and co will then take on Leeds United in the Carabao Cup next Wednesday.
