As we edge near the Champions League final, moments like this one are making Pep Guardiola’s selection a lot more difficult. Although Phil Foden has been one of the most outstanding players of the season for his side. He still needs to be at the top of his game when the time of the selection comes for the gaffer.

Today, he was booed during the first half against Brighton & Hove Albion. Man City seemed to struggle during the entire match due to Joao Cancelo’s red card early in the first half. Ilkay Gundogan scored the opening goal for his side at the very start of the game. Foden got booed by the Brighton supporters who finally returned to the stadium in order to bring life back to English football. The young player didn’t take this “welcome” all too well. He wanted to respond in style.

Foden swallows Andres Iniesta.

Right after the second half’s whistle, Phil took a ball in the middle of the pitch and started moving towards the box. As he entered the final third, he had at least two defenders coming after him on both sides at all times. But Foden didn’t flinch as he galloped towards Brighton’s territory. He dribbled past two defenders as he entered the box and released a crossed strike that gave the Citizens a two-goal advantage.

On the replay, you can see how brilliant Foden’s moves were throughout the entire play. A combination of speed, quality, ball control, and the vision to deliver a fantastic goal. It was as if the young England international swallowed Iniesta and Messi at the same time. This kid is not only ready for the Champions League final. He is also quite prepared to play the Euros for England.
