A Puskas Award-winning goal? Some goals just have to be seen to be believed, as Elisha Sam proved with his insane back-heel volley.

Notts County described it as ‘one of the most RIDICULOUS goals you’ll ever see’, and they might just have a point. Some goals just have to be seen to be believed, and Elisha Sam’s goal on Saturday definitely falls into that category.

The Belgian striker turned his body as a cross sent the ball inside the box and flicked it over himself and the keeper with back-heel volley and into the back of the net.

It was Sam’s second goal of the match and put Notts County in front against English sixth-tier side Oxford City after initially falling behind. Jimmy Knowles’ injury-time goal later sealed a 3-1 victory.

But while the result sealed Notts County a spot in the FA Vase semi-finals, Sam’s ridiculous goal stole the headlines.

The 23-year-old, who joined the fifth-tier club last August, later explained he didn’t get carried away with his goal celebration in order to savor the moment.

“It’s unbelievable. After I saw the defender I thought I cannot go for the header so I thought I’m just gonna do this,” said Sam as quoted by NottinghamshireLive.

“And then when I touched it, I saw it was a good touch and then I saw it go over the goalkeeper. In my head, I went crazy.

“But I just really enjoyed the moment. So this was what’s coming up in my mind. I am happy. It was the best goal I have ever scored.

“I definitely meant it. But everybody’s happy for me that I scored a goal because they know I’m really searching for this goal as well.”
